5 Helpful Tips For Dealing With A Painful Period

Apply Heat to the Area

An effective way to relieve menstrual cramps is to apply heat to the area. The heat will take down the inflammation in your abdomen, relieving the cramps. Just lie down on the bed and apply a heating pad to your lower abdomen for about 15 to 20 minutes. If you do not have a heating pad, try applying a warm washcloth to the area. Before you know it, you will feel relief and walk around with a lot more energy. 

Start Exercising

Exercise is probably one of the last things you want to do when you have period cramps. However, being active can actually help relieve the cramps. Exercise does this by increasing blood circulation in your body. It is best to do low-impact exercises like swimming, yoga and walking. 

Massage Your Stomach

Another way to relieve period cramps is to massage your lower abdomen area. Massaging your stomach in gentle, circular motions can relax the muscles, helping you feel better. If you lie down on the couch and do this for 15 minutes, you should get some relief.

Eat Some Salmon

When you are on your period, you should try eating some salmon. Salmon is not just beneficial for your heart and eyesight; it can also reduce your menstrual cramps. Salmon is loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, which are great at fighting inflammation. If you eat a piece of salmon every day, your period cramps will be less intense. 

Drink a Cup of Chamomile Tea

Chamomile tea is not just good for reducing cold and flu symptoms; it also can relieve menstrual cramps. It contains ant-inflammatory properties that can relax the muscles in your lower abdomen. If you drink a cup every day, you should feel a lot better during your period.

If you follow these helpful tips, you can relieve your menstrual cramps and feel a lot better. However, if you are still dealing with very painful periods, you should make an appointment with your gynecologist as soon as possible. Very painful periods could indicate an underlying health condition like endometriosis.
