Temporary Solutions To Wisdom Tooth Pain
At some point, you may need to have your wisdom teeth removed. But before you have this done, you may need a temporary solution to protect your mouth and to alleviate the pain that comes from your wisdom teeth.
Ice Cubes and Ice Packs
Sucking on ice cubes can help alleviate pain by numbing the area. Try not to chew the ice cube near the affected area because this can cause irritation. Also, placing an ice pack on the side of the mouth that has the troublesome wisdom tooth can reduce the pain.
Saltwater Rinses
Rinsing your mouth with a warm saltwater solution for thirty seconds and spitting it out can help treat the tooth by disinfecting it. Rising your mouth can help dislodge pieces of food that become trapped near the wisdom tooth and exacerbate the infection.
Numbing Agents
Applying over-the-counter oral numbing agents will help alleviate the pain caused by the wisdom tooth. These are either swabs or liquids. The swab is rubbed over the affected area to distribute the numbing agent.
Pain Medications
Over-the-counter pain relievers can help alleviate pain, but this should only be a temporary solution used for when the wisdom teeth will be extracted soon. Only take the medicine by following the directions on the label and do not take it more often than instructed.
Olive Oil
Olive oil can act as a pain reliever. First, you should heat the olive oil. Then, wait for it to cool to a lukewarm level. Then, apply the olive oil at the site of the pain using a swab. The great thing about treatments like olive oil is that they have fewer side effects.
Clove Oil
There are many at-home remedies for wisdom teeth pain. One of the most commonly used remedies is clove oil. Clove is an antiseptic, antibacterial and anesthetic. The eugenol found in clove is used in modern dental medicines. If you hold whole cloves over the area, they will eventually release their oils, and you will begin to feel your mouth go numb. Another option is to use clove essential oil and add it to a cotton ball. Then, press the clove oil firmly against the affected area.
Onions
Onions have the ability to relieve inflammation. They also have antimicrobial properties that allow for them to kill bacteria that are infecting the mouth. The stronger the onion, the more effective it will be. Yellow and red onions are generally the most effective. Slice the onion and spread it over the area that is affected.
