Psoriasis Treatment 101: 3 Ways To Get Relief

Posted on

If you're suffering with psoriasis, you may have already found out that there is no exact cure for this unfortunate skin condition. You may suffer daily with skin rashes, inflammation, and major irritation that causes you discomfort. Not only is it likely difficult to deal with the discomfort, but you may feel embarrassed because the psoriasis rash often appears on many areas of the skin. If you're looking for relief and are not sure how to get it, it's important to try a few different methods:

1. Use Essential Oils on the Skin

Two of the most common side effects associated with psoriasis include inflammation and irritation. However, there are some natural essential oils that contain anti-inflammatory properties. The oils may help soothe the skin, reduce redness, and heal some of the rashes you're experiencing. Some of the different essential oils you should try include peppermint, lavender, and sandalwood essential oils.

Add 10 drops of each essential oil into a small container and mix well. Apply a generous amount of oil onto areas of the skin that are currently affected. Make sure you're massaging it into your skin for a few minutes at a time. You may start to feel some relief and notice a bit of an improvement with consistent use of these essential oils.

2. Talk to a Doctor About Prescription Treatments

Even though essential oils may help some people, you might need something a bit stronger to help clear up some psoriasis on your body. It's often helpful to speak with a doctor about the condition to find out about treatment options that may work to reduce inflammation while softening the skin so that it isn't scaly. Many of the prescription treatments contain steroids and could cause a few negative side effects, so make sure to talk these options over with a doctor before using anything in particular to treat psoriasis.

3. Treat Yourself to a Green Tea Bath

Green tea contains a lot of antioxidants. Although commonly used as a beverage, you could place several green tea bags in your bathtub and soak in the water for about 30 minutes to reap major benefits. If you're regularly dealing with a lot of itchiness and irritation, simply sitting down in the tub with the green tea bags could give you that soothing feeling you want and need.

Living with psoriasis is often difficult because of the side effects, including the scaly patches on the skin and the severe irritation it causes. However, there are all kinds of ways to get relief, some of which are natural methods, too.
